It’s All About TRAINING

The towing industry in Ontario is undergoing many changes these days and it is having an effect on all tow companies including drivers. In an effort to help get drivers into the seats of tow trucks quicker and less expensive, we have now developed a tow truck driver on-line training program Compliant with the Ministry of Transportation Tow Truck Driver training requirements in cooperation with Canada’s most advanced driver training providers DRIVEWISE.

Tow companies can now assign an experienced driver with four or more years of tow truck driving and an aptitude to be a trainer to guide and mentor tow truck drivers on the provincial mandatory skills. The following is a guideline to training success.

Trainer Protocol
  • The trainer’s company must be a member of the Canadian Towing Association (CTA Inc.) or the Ontario Recovery Group (ORG Inc.)
  • The company must have at least one full time driver outside of the owner.
  • The assigned trainer must have at least four years experience driving a tow truck, verifiable formal training, have a keen interest in training, submit a clean drivers abstract (4 or less infractions), submit a CRJMC (must be within the year of submission) and approved by MTO and sign the applicable contracts with DriveWise.
  • Successfully pass the online training course. Cost $195.00
  • Successfully complete the train the trainer program.
  • Company must have a neat and large enough yard to provide six hours of practical training to students.

    Submit all required paperwork to DriveWise.
  • Registration fee $125.00 annually.
Student Protocol
  • Submit a clean drivers abstract (4 or less infractions), submit a CCCJM (both submissions less than 1 year up to date) and approved by MTO.
  • Students must be provided a computer and quiet area to engage in the online training program without any outside assistance.
  • Student must successfully pass the online training. (Pass is 80%)
  • Student must successfully complete the six hours in yard practical component.
  • Cost $195.00
  • Successful students will receive a wallet card and certificate upon successful completion from MTO.
